A completed Johto project
Pokemon SoulGold uses Pokemon Emerald as its technical GBA foundation, but the game itself is centered on Johto. It is built as a complete adventure with its own expanded map, progression, battle systems and postgame rather than as a standalone Hoenn modification.
Why expand Johto?
The project keeps the familiar rhythm of choosing a partner, earning Gym Badges and reaching the Pokemon League while giving those milestones more space around them. New routes, villages, optional areas, battle facilities and late-game destinations are connected to the journey so Johto feels broader without losing its identity.
Pokemon Emerald is the base, not the destination
Pokemon SoulGold is distributed as a patch for a compatible Pokemon Emerald TrashMan ROM. The Emerald base provides the underlying Game Boy Advance game data that the patch modifies; players supply their own legally obtained compatible ROM, while this website provides the SoulGold patch and browser patching tools.
